Seamonkies and Singing

Funny how I agree that blogging about life in our house is a good idea to capture and share the funny moments we encounter, and the next day one of the funnier things happens that I have to share in detail.

Prior to Jordan's bday, he had been begging for a pet. He went through everything he could imagine and asked for it. Jeremy found him some seamonkies that were low maintenance and if they didn't make it, oh well. So for his bday, he got his very own seamonkies. If you have never grown these things, and I will refer to them as things, you need warmth for the eggs to hatch. I am still trying to figure out how you package eggs, add water and poof, little things swimming around, kind of creeps me out. Anyways, since it's been so cold, only about 12 made it and quickly they grew to a size that you could really see them in detail. (***side story***Which grosses me out even more b/c it reminds me of the time I was thrown in the Reflection Pond at Mt Vernon Naz and got my "minimites" as we called them. After looking at a sample of the Reflection Pond during Zoology class, I was instantly grossed out at the thought of what had actually caused those bumps all over arms. I have not gotten over that apparently since the seamonkies have spiked terror in me that the little "aquarium" will spill over and thus seamonkies all over my kitchen.) SO...you only have to feed these things every few days and today was one of them. Jeremy and Jordan stood at the counter, dropped the food in, and watched as the little things should have swam to the top. Instead, Jeremy shouts, "they're mating!" Laughs. "Or piggybacking". I quickly said, "let's go with piggybacking"...not even close to ready for the "talk" with our kids. So Jordan out of some miracle, missed the mating word, and went with "why are they having piggybacks". So picture a little plastic aquarium with large see through shrimp things with bug eyes, having piggy back races. We quickly dismissed the topic, amazingly enough so did Jordan, and we moved on. Except, I still laugh at the sight and how quickly your brain works to divert a child's intriguing mind.

Now for Julianne, she loves to sing. She'll sing ABC's, Wheels On the Bus, Twinkle Twinkle, and Five Little Speckled Frogs among others. So tonight while getting her ready for bed, I started singing Five Little Speckled Frogs, which she likes to chime in the "yum yum" when it refers to eating "delicious bugs". So we started at five frogs, went to four, three, and at two instead of saying "yum yum"..she belted out a "yuck yuck". Then lost her focus of the song and continued on saying yuck. Of course I was laughing by then because it seemed as though it suddenly hit her that she was saying bugs were good and she did not agree. She's such a girly girl at times and then others such a little tom boy...which in my opinion is a nice balance. As she grows and develops, her mind is becoming very sharp as well and she is starting to pick up on lots of things. Like last night, Jeremy put her to bed, went downstairs and five minutes later, she starts screaming. So he runs up there and walks in her room and she starts laughing at him. Nice. I guess you could say let the taking advantage of begin with her!

Life with these kids is never dull, that's for sure!
